It's incomprehensable that they'd fire a perfectly good employee because two bad employees fucked up.
If I was your girlfriend, I'd grab every piece of paper with their names on it (past performance appraisals, anything that might say 'shape up', etc) and take it to her boss' boss on Monday, asking why she's taking the fall for these guy's incompetence. Of course, that might just get her fired, too, but I'd hate taking anything like that sitting down.
But yeah, that really does suck.
