Like I said... my car's a peice of shit... and it has the nerve to be a '96 at that.

Yeah... I piss a lot of people off when I get on the highway because it takes so long to get up to speed.

I miss my first car. '69 Malibu, V8, 4 barrel Holley carb... 0-90 in 5 secs. flat. Damn I loved that car. And that 0-90 in 5 secs. is no BS either.... that car would lay you back in the seat.

I remember one time a cop followed me home from work for 3 days straight. I finally asked him why he kept following me, he wanted to know if I'd sell my car to him. "HELL NO!" I said.

He wanted to see how fast it would go, so we went out to a closed stretch of highway, at a dead stop I hit the gas while he had the radar on me... no shit... 0-90 in 5 secs.

The best part was the engine was all stock except for the carb, so it was street legal .

That cop bugged me for a month to sell it to him. I never did. A few years later I got in a wreck (other guy's fault) and the poor car went to the great scrapyard in the sky.

Damn I loved that car.

"Not for anything under $200,000"

Seriously, how any 2 litre car from the last 20 years can be that slow is beyond me, I mean, Diesels perform better than that.

Of course, any V8 engne is gonna go like fuck.

My Dad has a 2.2 diesel Primera. I asked why he needed a 2.2 (we've never had anything larger than a 1.6 petrol before) and he showed me the fuel economy - I was amazed! It has 6 gears, and when you slip it into 6th it will sit at 85 all day and return 50+mpg, which we've validated off the trip computer. The only problem is 6th has no acceleration at all - its just there for fuel economy. But its a lovely drive if the road is clear.

My mum drives a 1.4 Polo TDI, it does a good 50-65 a gallon, before you even get on the motorway! It's also way more responsive than the 2 litre diesel 306 she used to have.

Dad was at a bit of a crossroads when he bought the car unfortunately. Our previous car was written off in an accident and so he was forced to buy a new one whilst my sister was still at University. The plan had been to wait for a year or so until she finished and settled down (and Mum and Dad no longer had to transport a full car of kit each holiday) then part exchange the old car for a smaller new car. The accident scuppered that. I think he'll probably part-exchange in a few years for a smaller car.
