OK... so my new job is working for a cedit card company processing reward redempitons... you know, cash back and shit.

So I get this 80 year old lady on the phone who just opened her account and wanted to know how this rewards stuff works. I start explaining it to her (as it's part of my job) and she asks what are "acceptable purchases"

I explain to her that it's anything she purchases with her credit card. Pretty self explainatory right?

Well for her... nooooo. She starts asking what sort of things can you buy with a credit card, so I start naming off some stuff that people use a credit card for... pay bills, buy groceries, going out to dinner, buy gas.

As soon as I said 'buy gas' she actually had a shocked tone to her voice and replied "you can buy gas with a credit card!?"

FOR THE LOVE OF FREAKING GOD PEOPLE!!! If a person doesn't understand the basics of how to even use a fucking credit card... why the fuck would you even get one!!! I mean really... a person with an I.Q. of a rock would know what a credit card is for!

SHIT! People are stupid!

Yeah, to turn Daxies question around - if she doesn't know how a credit card works - why the fuck did the company give her one? Is it any wonder so many people are up to their eyeballs in debt? IMHO, you should have to pass a basic competency test to get a credit or store card. Not as a means of denying the poor and disadvantaged access to financial services - but as a means of protecting such people from the sharks and predators that operate these scams.

Sadly, I'm sure you're right Bean.

Now today I get the other side of the spectrum:

Not once, not twice, not three times but 4 FUCKING times I get people calling in who aren't even named on the account wanting specific information about these accounts, then getting pissed because I won't tell them a damn thing without permission form the card holder to speak to so-and-so.

I don't give a flying fuck if you are the card holder's spouse, child, sibling or whatever, you're not named on the account so therefore I'm not going to talk to you... fuck off! For all I know that person stole the credt card and is trying to wipe out the account.

People are so fucking stupid.
