Default AAARGGHH...I'm on the verge of hating my mother!!!

So I am on the phone with my mother who lives a bit away from me and we are just chatting about Reagan's death and all the coverage on tv, etc... and as an aside, half kidding, I said maybe I'll throw on my old Navy uniform and go see the old boy. She then tells me she threw that out awhile back because it was sitting around the attic.

WTF!!! Could you have at least given me a call mom????

The reason she had it was that when I went through my divorce I could't afford to store a lot of my stuff and so she volunteered to put it in her attic. No keep in mind my ex was going to throw out her wedding gown when the divorce was final, but my mother bought it from her and still has that in the attic.

Now I gotta go up there and see if she still has my service ribbons and rank insignia because she can't remember if she tossed that as well and she can't get up in the attic since her back surgery in March. BAH!!!

I understand that this might be upsetting, since it seems the uniform was important to you... but is it really that necessary in order to honor Reagan? I mean, it would seem to me that just showing up at all is what's really the point.

Nah, it is not important, and I wouldn't go anyway. I was just sort of chatting with my mother about all the pomp and circumstance surrounding the whole state funeral with all the military officers and how even the secret service offficers are going to be in uniform (I didn't know they even had uniforms) when I said that.

Its a mum thing. When I was a first year undergrad I used to bring washing home from Uni at the end of term and mum would grumble as she washed it.

In the second year laundry was easier and I stopped bringing it home since I always felt a bit guilty about it - then Dad took me to one side and said that my mum was feeling a bit down because I was becoming more independent and suggested that I bring home a token bag of washing so she felt needed!

Those days are gone now of course - but if I do come home for more than a couple of days, mum will insist that my sister and I give her the clothes we've worn whilst home so she can send them back with us clean and ironed*.

*If like me you don't now what I mean by "Ironed" - follow this link http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Ironing

I bring home my laundry, and I start to do it, then she takes over while I'm off doing somethign else during the cycle, finishes it, and then bitches about how she's always doing my laundry. I'm like, "Well, if you didn't DO it, then you wouldn't..."
