This is bigger than the one I had on Photobucket...

That is fuckin' SWEET!

I think that because this is fan-made, that there are a few hard edges still, but it is still very inspiring! I like the fact that the font used to spell STAR TREK isn't any kind of cliche font. In the words of Davey Jones ala Neil Diamond: I'm a believer!

ATTENTION: BRIKAR

I would love to see what you could contribute to this,

I have to say, this idea didn't initilally sit very well with me, but then, I boycotted TNG for many years until I actually saw a few episodes of it, then I was sold on it.

The reboot thing WILL happen eventually, I have no doubt about it. When you think about it, there really isn't anywhere else to go with Star Trek as far as the general vibe around it is concernedl.

Is there?

Yeah, I'm sick of Sci-Fi shows/films always having their logos in some dodgy futuristic font, so I went with something a little more classy, which still looks cool.

I agree. The thing is, you can make another Trek show, that sticks to what's been established, but it has 700 hours worth of material that it can't ignore without pissing off the fans, but not ignoring it will ailienate casual viewers, who in reality were the people who spawned Star Trek's pop culture status. This is why Enterprise season 4 was so well received by the fans but failed to garner much improvement. TOS is a pop culture icon like 007, the Comic Book Heroes, The Twighlight Zone and Star Wars. When someone says "Beam me up, Scotty" or "Phasers on Stun" (BTW where do you think they got the name for TASERS?) or "He's Dead, Jim" or "Captain's Log stardate...." anyone who hasn't spent the last 30 years on Mars will know where it came from, just like they know "the name's Bond...James Bond", or "Luke, I am your Father". Even my Grandfather knows those quotes and he only uses his TV to watch the news or Rugby. Kirk is an iconic character, he's a little rebellious, very clever, kicks the bad guy's ass and always gets the girl, that's why he's so famous.

There's also the fact that any new (unrelated) show made in the same vein as Trek is going to be called a Rip-off, so I say why not just use Star Trek, keep the good stuff, improve on the bad stuff and try and make it the best you can. I LOVE Star Trek, I grew up with TNG and DS9, and went back and watched TOS. It's had a major impact on me as a person as well as provide me with quality entertainment. I grew up idolising Captain Picard - which has shaped my moral fibre for the better. I don't want to see it desecrated, but I want to see it in a new way, with the production advantages we have today. FireFly (which I love equally) has proved to me that good episodic TV Sci-Fi can still be made, so I will not give up hope.

My high school English teacher considered TOS to be up there with the literary Classics. That says it all.

The iconic status of the original Star Trek and Kirk, Spock, and McCoy owes a lot to the performances of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley. I don't think you can replace them and expect the public to treat the new Kirk, Spock, and McCoy with the same reverence they do the originals. Indeed, I think you expect revulsion from people who have idolized these characters as they've been for forty years, and who wouldn't want their memories of them sullied by a new adaptation.

With a totally new Star Trek series, you wouldn't have to worry about that problem.

Well, you're good with the imaging programs as well. I'd be curious if you had any ideas for posters, DVD covers, etc.

maybe you have a teleplay in mind... I dunno.

If you do, give us a plot summary!

I asked Ro if I could turn his outline into a script, and he agreed. I could give a go at a poster, too...

Here it is without the blue wash. I'm not sure which one I like best, since the blue one can look kinda dull, but also looks more cohesive than this.

EDIT: Re: the original Font, I like it. But at the same time I don't think it'd work for a series today, and again it conforms to the "Futuristic Show must have a futuristic logo" thing. Basically, I like it, but it's also very campy, which is why I went for the Times New Roman. It's simple and it's elegant.

I like the one with the blue wash. They look too pale in this new one.
