I've actually found the GIMP to be quite workable, but it took some patience. Initially, I just used it as a picture viewer. But I've learned to do 3D text and a lot of other cool stuff. But it is a bit quirky sometimes.

I like learning the processes though, just pressing the script-fu process button is cheap.

I haven't used it that much, to be honest. I initially wasn't wild about all the separate windows, so I tried a plugin that was supposed to keep them all in one master window. Bad things happened when trying to move between maximized windows, especially if a smaller window was on top of one of the maximized ones. And then my HD died, and I haven't downloaded it on the newly built PC yet.
