I've also been toying around with this.

I think it sounds good. Yeah there could be some work on the vocals, and the bass is a little heavy, maybe just record it with lower bass. But I really like it.

Are you using a program for the drums, or an actual synthesizer? I'd love to get my hands on some decent software for doing drum tracks. The lack of which is probably the only thing stopping me from recording anything myself.

I'm using the built in drum machine in Cubase VST, I used to record from a drum machine, but that meant I couldn't edit the drum track without re-recording the whole thing.

Well, last time I recoded it, it sounded like "Justice for All..." so this time I put in some bass and put it in loud. The problem you get when you do your mixing with a standard home Hi-Fi, the sound I hear might not be the same sound you hear.

BTW: Des, I hate drums, the pedal makes my ankles hurt.
Is that why? I thought it was from grabbing your own ankles!

I always found that trying to program a drum track for a slower dirge-like song was particularly artificial feeling. Those things need to get worked on and jammed in the studio for true improvisational inspiration.

You should try and get a cheap drum kit and keep it around in case anyone who knows how to use it should want to jam with you. A good drummer can do a lot with the most basic drum kit, and if the musical chemistry is there, it shouldn't be a problem to assemble the rest of the band and get gigs. In forming a band, a lot depends on having a drummer. Unless you're doing techno, the drum machine is going to work against you unless you can really make it sound natural.

Try this L I N K for MIDI programming tips.
