I finally looked into this and it turns out there's no Mac version of Truespace. I've been thinking of installing Boot Camp so I can put some of my Windows stuff on here, so maybe I'll just do that and stick with my ancient version of Lightwave.

Sadly, there still doesn't seem to be a decent public domain version of the 1701-D because I've been itching to do a bigger badder version of my "Best of Both Worlds" edit.
