Sadly he'll never get to take that first step - but perhaps because of his campaigning, someone else will one day take it on his behalf.

I hate to speak ill of the dead, but I was never impressed by his efforts for the research of paralysis. If he'd never been paralyzed, he wouldn't have thought twice about it. Everybody is too quick to make him out to be some martyr or something.

On a more respectful note, I AM sad to see that he died.

Whether or not he would have isn't the question. He did. That's what's important. Most people wouldn't take up some kind of cause if it didn't affect them personally somehow.

While I am sad that he died, I have to agree with Bean on this point.

The week before he died I heard an interview with him on NPR. He said it was quite probable that he would die REALLY SOON and was very calm and "matter of fact" about it. SUPERMAN indeed! Had it been me I'd have been cursing up storm, directing it and my comments at the fuckers in Washington that won't fund stem cell research because "it might be like abortion, but we can't be sure, so we'll just deny anyone the means to research it so that we may POSSIBLY appease our loving yet vengeful, nuturing killer god who does/doesn't give us all we need...Let's err on the side of caution..."

The only thing is, that everything I have read was that stem cell probably could not help him. Although, embryonic stem cell research is still being done, just not being funded by the government.

I understand that, but people make him out to be some great saint, because he devoted all of his time and considerable money to helping others. Fact of the matter is, he was trying to help himself. If I were paralyzed and had millions of dollars, you're damn right I'd invest it into finding a cure. Not because I gave a damn about the other people that were suffering from the same affliction.

I"m not questioning his actions, or even his motives, just other peopls opinions of his motives.
