Default While Supplies Last...

I logged into PayPal today (I hate PayPal), and the screen that says 'We've logged you in, but first you have to look at us promoting ourselves' told me that I can now start purchasing music off of iTunes. Actually, here's what it said:

Quote:
Good news: You can now use PayPal to securely and easily buy music from the massive iTunes catalogue, including lots of exclusive tracks and videos.

But you won’t have to buy all your music. For a limited time, when you start using PayPal with your new, free iTunes account, you’ll get five songs free (while supplies last).*
My question is, of course, does anyone really think supplies are going to run out?

In case you're wondering, the asterisk refers to the following:
Quote:
*The First Five Hundred Thousand (500,000) eligible participants who successfully open a new iTunes account and specify PayPal as their primary iTunes account funding source during the Promotion Period will receive five (5) free iTunes music downloadable songs. Promotion open to registered members of www.PayPal.com (the "PayPal Site") who are legal U.S. residents, 18 years of age or older and whose account on the PayPal Site are in good standing ("Eligible Participants"). Maximum of one (1) offer per Eligible Participant per iTunes account. Offer good only while supplies last. Promotion begins at 12:00 AM PT December 8, 2004 and ends at 11:59 PM PT March 31, 2005. Subject to additional restrictions, see full Terms & Conditions.
Looks like maybe someone got their legalese screwed up.

Paypal has always been a scam. I remember hearing tales of Paypal arbitrarily closing people's accounts with credit stored up, which means that the account holders lost whatever credit had been built up. I don't trust it. Since this is their modus operandi, they really have no use for working legalese, as long as it looks good and intimidating to the average user, they don't really care, I'm sure.

The only reason I use it is because it's become the 'gold standard' for transmitting money over the internet. I buy a lot from smaller groups, and I don't always feel comfortable giving them my Credit Card number. Using PayPal as an intermediary, I feel more secure with my payment (especially to 'verified members').

I would never keep a significant balance in my PayPal account ($1.46, last time I looked).

I do have privacy concerns with eBay, which I've posted about before.

Internet commerce still has a long way to go before it can really be considered "secure".

So does offline commerce.

True. But now the potential for abuse is exponentially higher.

But that's progress I guess.
