| The Awesome One | Well, it's upon us. The end of the year, and the beginning of a new one. For some it means the end of bad times and the chance to start fresh. For others it means saying goodbye to things that were, and moving forward to things that will be. I'm not sure what it means to me. Certainly I had my bad times this year. I lost two jobs, the woman with whom I thought I would spend the rest of my life, and recently, my best friend. I also realized that the bond I share with my family will never be strong again. With all of that in mind there was good as well. My oldest son turned 4 and my youngest started to speak. I started to repair the burned bridges between my father and I (regardless of the temporary setbacks we're now suffering). I met my biological father, and visited for the first time (second?) the place of my birth and the people there. I realized, as I hope many of you did, that the bond shared here at the bar by most of us transcends some internet forum, and moves into the realm of friendship. Although I regret as no doubt you all do, that it took the loss of one of our friends to his demons to remind us of this. I also realized that regardless of what my life has thrown at me, by my own hand at times, I can overcome these obstacles and move on. Well, that's what I see this new year as, a chance to move forward and look for more good things to happen. Not to forget the year behind me, but to stand on top of it proud that I survived it, and excited to see what the next will bring. I know this all sounds like emotional rubbish, but induldge me for a few moments longer. I'm thankful for everything, good and bad, that happened in this past year, because regardless of wether it was pleasant or not, it has helped to move me forward from the person I was yesterday, and a bit closer to the person I hope to be tomorrow. I look back on other bad years I've had and think "wow, that was a bad year, but I'm greatful it happened". Why? Because it's just one more step forward. I don't think that there's any such thing as a "bad" step forward, just a real one. And this year I moved forward by leaps and bounds. I can only hope that the coming year can come close to comparing. Happy New Year everyone. ![]()

| Patrons | Beanie dear, I'm glad to see that you're starting to come out of your dark place. As you move on to this new year, hold those thoughts with you and know that you can, and have survived the shit that life throws your way. And for my own reasons, Thank You for those words, they have lifted me up tonight.

| Religious Fanatic | Yeah, but I was thinking more along the lines of a plasterboard wall or something, or even a door or window, since breaking a human being usually causes a longer jail sentence.

I've found that if you kick an empty one hard enough, they make a deafening boom and explode, but because they are so light only fly a few metres and don't cause any damage. Extremely satisfying when you've just fucked up and need to let off a little steam - but with no danger of wrecking the lab.
