Actually it sounds to me like someone who has nothing better to do with their lives than to bitch about such non-improtant nonsense.

The guy would have been pissed if someone showed up at the airport before he did and used his name to claim the ticket. The first thing out of Gilmore's mouth would have been "didn't you ask to see some kind of ID?"

If the guy doesn't want to drive (for whatever reason) fine, that's why we have these little things called "state ID's"

Yes, you need some sort of ID for most things these days, but if you stop to think about it, it is for your protection. Anyone could use your name (or someone who happens to have the same name as you) to basically end up ruining your life.

I know that I get somewhat upset when I go somewhere, use my credit card, and the cashire doesn't ask to see my ID... how does that cashier know that it's my credit card? how do they know it's not stolen?

I know that if I book airline tickets to be picked up at the gate, I would expect to be asked for some sort of proof that I am who I say I am and not to be simply taken at my word for it, as it does prove that those tickets rightfully belong to me.

I guess that the only people who would actually have a problem with it are those who have something to hide.

Just to add... when asked "why?" and the airline agent says because it's the law, then they (or some kind of agancy) should be able to provied documents showing that. The airlne agent could have stated that it's company policy just to cover his/her ass and avoid the hassle.

Have you heard of the recent proposal to tie in social security numbers with your liscense? Do you really want to be flashing your SSN everytime you use your credit card? How about when you board a plane. I understand your point Daxie, but he didn't have to claim his ticket from what I read, he already had it, or at least a recipt for the purchase through a travel agent.

The point is, the government could use this information to track where you're travelling to within the country. And as for the only people who need to worry about this are the ones who have something to hide? Daxie I thought better of you than that. It's not a very big leap from keeping track of where you're going, to limiting where you can go. The idea that you dismiss it as necessary Dax is ridiculous.

Worried someone else is claiming your prepurchased tickets? Fine, show them, the credit card that was used to book it, or a receipt or confirmation number. If I go into an airport and pay cash to purchase a non-international ticket, there is absolutley no justification for the govt asking who I am. As mentioned in the article, every one of the 9/11 hijackers showed ID, it certainly helped security on those flights didn't it...

Photographic ID has always been obligatory on UK internal flights.

Oh, I realize this isn't a new thing, I just didn't think anyone viewed it in the same way as I do. And with the current American administrations views on basic civil rights, I think it's a especially important subject now.

I'm sorry Bean, you misunderstand me. Yes, "Big Brother" has been haunting this country for decades and it does piss me off. I don't feel that every move I make needs to be checked and verified by some pencil neck government offical.

Yes, I beleve that MLK, Malcom X and even JFK were murdered by this government because they opposed certian "policies" and were outspoken about things that they saw a wrong and needed to be changed. Even now, people who speak out against the government "disapear" or have their lives ruined and yes, I do believe that it's the governments doing.

I can tell you this much, at almost every traffic light in any city there are cameras that snap your picture if you run a red light.... BULLSHIT! Those cameras take pictures of every car and license plate that goes through those lights. It is a means of tracking you.

ATM machines and stores also have cameras to protect against theft... angain BULLSHIT! Intresting fact (this was even aired on a local news channel not to log ago) when you walk down a city sidewalk, your picture is taken on an average of every 8 seconds, If you work in a building where cameras are placed, it goes to an average of 3 seconds. In one day your picture has been taken several hundred times... all of them time and date stamped.

Another way the government has come up with as a means of tracking your activities is the new dollar bills. Each bill has a thin etal strip that is coded with the unit amount, this is to "prevent forgery" (do I really need to say it again? BULLSHIT!) Everytime you pass through a metal detector, or sensor device (the kind they use at stores that beeps when you bought a CD and the cashier forgot to demgnitize it), it sends a signal that can tell how much money is in your pocket when you enter the building and when you leave the building.

Yes, I've said for years that this country is becoming too much like nazi Germany, and fully expect, within my lifetime, to have to show papers when I leave my city to cross into another.

However, I do reconize the need to show ID for certian things, alcohol for example, if I were a parent, I'd be pissed if someone sold a bottle of Jack to my 13 year old because he/she "looks" or said they were lod enough.

Yes, I get a bit bent out of shape when I use my credit card and I'm not asked for ID, but then again, I've also been a victim of having my card stolen and maxed out before I realized that it was gone.

My best friend had her checks stolen a few years ago, the checks were from an account she had closed out, but it didn't stop her ex-husband from writing ab bunch of "bad checks", some made out to cash, and ended up costing her thousands of dollars to those companies the checs were written out to as well as having to pay court costs and check fraud on her police record. Yes, this went to court and the judge told her there was nothing she could do about it since it was an account in her name, she was liable and it goes against her record, not his.

Perhaps I read the article wrong, I took it as he was trying to claim his ticket at the gate.

I agree that the government, as well as some businesses have gone too far (that's wh I don't shop at Raido Shack), t I'm not going to hide in my home in fear of "Big Brother".

I know I need a job to pay my bills and the government knows where I work and how much money I make, I need to drive to work every day as it's too far to walk so I need a drivers license and the government knows what kind of car I drive and my route to and from work, I do carry an amount of cash in my pocket for whatever reasons in the day (pop, lunch etc.) and I knw there's nothing that I personaly can do about it.

I WILL NOT become a prisoner in my own home for fear the government is watching me... I KNOW they're watching, so I quitely sit back an wait for the revolution that is coming, and when it comes, I'll be ready.

But I still think this Gilmore guy has gone to extream with it... and if he's so concerned about it he's failed to realize that there are cameras on public buses as well.

Bean, as far as your SSN on your DL, in Ohio it used to be mandatory but it's an optioon now (I think it was 2001 when they did that) and I donn't have my SSN on it in case my license gets lost or stolen.
