| Astro-Monkey | So, what's the latest on http://www.startrekreborn.net? Every time I go to the site, it doesn't seem like much is happening...

| Religious Fanatic | Thats because the guy who volunteered to do the website is doing a pretty slow job of it, apparantly he's decided to shit-can the whole thing and do it again. Ro and Brikar have prosuced two teleplays and Ro posted the first part of episode 3 yesterday.

![]() | But if we don't own "Star Trek" or any of its characters, how can we have a license on it?

![]() | There's the rub... I'm sure there's a way, otherwise there wouldn't be nearly as many Trek-based novels, etc. Perhaps this should be posted over on TW where there's more exposure to those who might know....

You don't own Star Trek or any of its characters, but some of the ideas and concepts in the reboot are unique. This isn't for making money off of, but you own your ideas, and the scenarios in the reboot could get ripped off without any claim to them. At the very least, you want to be recognized for what you've done without it being "forgotten" in the ethers of time. The branding of Star Trek belongs to Paramount. But the reboot elements don't, not yet anyway. With a proper claim to the elements, Paramount may buy the rights to use a derivation of your work, or even hire you outright. It may not happen, but it could. You don't want someone named Doc Scorned to pop up out of the blue and claim that he wrote the teleplays. Anyway, I'm just offering this up for you guys to look at. Read the terms of the creative commons license. If it applies, I suggest using it. If not, then just ditch it and offer it as Open Source Star Trek. | |
