![]() | I finally finally upgraded myself to a new computer... despite the money I owe on my car, but that's okay . Now I'm dealing with a 64-bit processor (and a 64-bit version of Windows that I'm not terribly crazy about. Finding drivers is a pain in the ass). I've gota 200gb SATA drive, 1 gig of RAM and a 256mb videocard. Of course the first thing I do when I get this all up and running (I ordered all the components separately and put it together myself) is run out and buy "Half-Life 2". I'd heard the horror stories, of course. But I thought, "those guys at the bar just like to grouse alot..." I'm sorry. You were all right. STEAM SUCKS. I wouldn't mind being forced to register the game. I did pay for it, after all. But CHRIST this is ridiculous. The thing's already 5 discs, and then it goes online without asking me and starts downloading all these updates. That was at 5 pm, and it's still not finished. I played "Half-Life: Source" for a while 'cause I hadn't played HL in forever and just wanted to see what the improvements were like (I didn't really notice any, and didn't go very far in the game). But then I said, "Okay, main course: HL2." STEAM of course, told me that the game was 100% updated and ready to play. So I hit "Launch". Then another box comes up and tells me that it's updating HL2, and that I can play the game in 36 minutes. I said, "Fuck, did I just have to get in line for a game I already own?" Retarded. STEAM can suck my balls. Valve is lucky HL2 kicks so much ass, cuz this thing is ridiculous. In fact, it's 1130 right now. I started installing the game at about 5pm, and it's still not finished "updating" "Counter-Strike: Source". What ass-clown designed this thing? ![]()

![]() | While you're waiting for that crap to update/install/wipe your hard drive, you might be interested in http://www.blackmesasource.com/. I saw it a few days ago, and it looks pretty sweet.

| Religious Fanatic | It's fucking annoying, isn't it? The drawbacks outweigh the advantages, IMO. I'd rather download the occasional patch and get a No-CD hack than have to fuck around like this. I'd advise turning off automatic updates when it finishes. It pissed me off because I bought it mid-week, and only had access to the internet on weekends at the time. The game won't dissapoint though. Considering the graphics and complexity of the game, it runs very smoothly on my aging PC, with higher settings than I use with most games. I can only imagine how great it runs on a new machine.

| The Dude | That looks hella cool, NX. It's what I was hoping "Half-Life: Source" would be. I hope they actually finish it... unlike most mods.

| Religious Fanatic | Towards the end of the game, you'll see some awesome cinematics.

![]() | So, STEAM forces you to register online? I don't think I've ever owned a game that has STEAM, yet. I've been thinking very seriously about getting the Half-Life series, but I'm still very caught up in playing Command and Conquer: Generals, and Zero Hour is on my list 'cause I can mod it with a Vietnam simulation. But damn, I do want to check out Half Life, I've been hearing about it for years. Anybody here into Real-Time-Strategy games like Command and Conquer or Age of Empires? I know Bean was playing the Age of Mythology game a while ago. |

| Religious Fanatic | I'm playing Age Of Empires 3 at the moment. I just played the final mission of Act 1 last night and I was sweating by the time I finished. My personal favourite war game is Rome: Total War.

That said, the series is worth it. Easily the best shooter series ever created.
