Sissy. We're scraping the boundary of 100F where I live. This happens every summer.

And you probably have air conditioning and all sorts of other gizmos to keep you cool. British homes and appliances are designed to keep us warm, we aren't used to this kind of heat, and our homes aren't made to accomodate it.

We had a heat index of 105 yesterday. My older dog is miserable.

Perhaps surprisingly, many homes and apartment buildings in the Great Lakes and "North Eastern" areas of the U.S. weren't built with Air Conditioning. It's as if those responsible never realized that it can get well into the 90s and low 100s there. I'm from the Chicago area originally, typically known for it's blistering cold winters- but summers there often get hotter than it does in Florida. And many, many buildings there don't have AC. People die from such heat, especially older people.

I was in London during the summer of '84. The temp hit 75F and some sort of national emergency was declared!

I got off of work at 5am this morning (still dark outside) and the radio said it was 96F.

The last time I was in England (sometime in the early 90s), there was a record heat wave - it was in the high 90s and I thought the entire country was going to die. Haven't you barbarians ever heard of a thing called "ice?"

I was in London sometime in the 90s, I didn't stay long enough to notice the weather though. It was summer, but it was comfortable. I spent most of my time in Amsterdam though, and that was very comfortable.
