How would you interpret this?

Your rebate request cannot be processed because the Terms and Conditions for this offer require:

OH OH OH!! I've got this one. Having processed mail in and internet rebates for over a year...

So this means that somewhere in the terms and conditions of your mail in rebate, there is a little blurb saying something to the effect of "Rebate not valid in combination with any other promotions coupons or offers".

I'll also assume that you got a discount at the time you bought the phone, probably for signing a contract, and that was offered by the wireless carrier. Now the mail in rebate itself is probably handled by the manufacturer, who doesn't care if the store "still gave it to you or not".

What I need here is more details!

Retailer
Manufacturer
And the rebate status website (So I know which rebate company it is, and can hopefully tell you a workaround for it )

Well, you see, you fell into the same trap that I did.

Apparently, when they said that the instant rebate is not combinable with any other offer, they forgot to finish that sentence with "unless you want it to be". I called up last night, and the CSR that I talked to told me "That doesn't mean you don't get the rebate, it just means we couldn't process it". Then he processed it for me.

Then he told me that he'd speed up my check...that they'd send it in 15 days rather than 30.

Of course, I object to being treated like an idiot, but they're sending me my check, so I can't really complain.

15 days eh? lol, I think I know which company you were dealing with... Parago. Parago is the company I used to work for, and the only one I know of that uses a 15 day timeframe for anything.

Now, I could be wrong, but here's what it sounds like...

You're not elligible for the rebate as per the instructions. The idea is that you get the notice, and give up on it. So, you call, and one of two things happened:

A. The client (retailer) has pretty slack guidelines and has instructed Parago that if a customer calls about a particular rebate, you canpretty much let it slide, but the customer has to contact them.

B. You got an agent who either had no idea what was wrong, or just didn't relish the thought of arguing with you and overrode your claim anyways despite the client guidelines.

The 15 day timeframe means, the file will be sent to the printing department within the next 15 business days.

Seriously, what was the retailer or manufacturer. I'm just curious now. If you have a copy of your rebate form, where was it mailed to. I'm betting it was El Paso TX right?

lol, I almost miss this stuff and since I quit, I've been dying to spill the beans on how this crap works.

Sprint/Samsung. I bought the phone in early August, so I don't remember where I sent it.

Ok, so is the service provider STI mobile?

If the rebate was through Sprint, then it's definitley Parago. Let me guess, you got a customer service person who sounded like he/she was from Guatemala? (sp?)

Actually, no. And that kinda surprised me.

Twice last week I called into call centers and got people who spoke English fairly well.

As well I can imagine it did... As part of my job when I was with Parago, I regularly had to contact customer service for various retailers or manufacturers. Circuit City was AWFUL. They had a call center in India for their "Cool Line". It was great when they got too busy though, cause the backed up called were rerouted to Ontario.

Alot of the smaller contracts we dealt with were handled by a call center in Guatemala (Sprint PCS, HSI and Mobile were among them).

Staples was the best of the bunch. Customer service, or purchasing or anything like that was routed to either Kentucky, Saskatchewan or Nova Scotia. I often had to contact these guys about Staples rebates (to verify an order or something) and most often got the Halifax NS center. This was even cooler because I actually KNEW half a dozen people who worked there. I've lived all over the maritimes so it was bound to happen lol.

The only shit part about Staples (besides the badly laid out rebates) was that we only handled 2 thirds of the customer contacts for rebates, the other third was sent to the Guatemala call center. Never did I work a Staples shift without someone starting a call off with "Thank god your American". Which was great when I informed them I was actually Canadian.
