| Religious Fanatic | My PC will be 6 years old in February. Over the years, the old girl's been a wonderful companion and has coped well with new advancements, but unfortunately she hasn't been able to cope very well with any of this year's games. So I just ordered a new one! AMD Athlon X2 6400+ DualCore CPU 4GB DDR2 RAM 256MB RADEON HD 3850 PCIE Graphics 1 250GB SATA HD 1 500GB SATA HD And a shitload of other bits you'd expect. I was going to reduce the Hard Drive space and go for a Phenom QuadCore, but I couldn't find a suitable MoBo.

| The Dude | Sounds awesome, dude. I've been thinking of adding a laptop... Possibly a tablet. But with car repairs, that's now further off than I thought.

| Religious Fanatic | So...I got it on Saturday, and have just now actually started to use it. I built it Saturday afternoon, which took a lot longer than I thought because I mounted the Hard Drives in the case before I'd even opened the box for the Graphics card. Long Story short, my Graphics card is fucking HUGE lengthwise (it doesn't block any other PCI slots though), and as a result I had to move the Hard Drives to another part of the case. Then, when I finally had it built, I plugged it in and...nothing. Power light on the MoBo was on, but the machine wouldn't turn on. So I rechecked all the wiring and connections and it was fine, so I then preceeded to take out everything I'd put in, one at a time, to make sure that the Mobo just didn't like one or many of the components. This took hours. Anyway, naturally, by the time I'd double checked if the CPU was resting in the socket properly, I was pretty bumbed and very worried that a bit of static might have done some damage to the MoBo and I'd have to send it back. Then, I noticed I'd forgotten to try pulling out one component - the Wireless card. The wireless card I had originally thought to be a very curious thing, because it didn't have a thing on it to attatch to the case, and it didn't even take up all the pins in the PCI slot(which isn't uncommon nowadays) but I figured that since it doesn't need any wires, it wouldn't need to have a slot at the back of the case, and it was just a bit new-fangled, and the unobtrusiveness of this little component was probably why I'd forgotten about it in the first place. Yeah, turns out I'd accidentally bought a WLAN card for a laptop PCI slot. D'oh! By the time I had Windows installed, it was time to go to work (about 8:30pm). Naturally, then, when I got back at 3AM, I was anxious to install drivers before going to bed, because I had to wake up at 6:30 to take my best mate to the airport, and I was determined to be able to play when I got back from the 4 hour drive. Yeah, of course, that's when I discovered that the conector pins on my trusty 5 year old PS/2 mouse were bent beyond repair and wouldn't fit into the slot properly anymore, meaning I couldn't manipulate the computer. So I went to bed, woke up two hours later, took my mate to the airport and picked up a new mouse, new Wireless card and the Medieval II: Total War expansion pack on the way back. By the time all the drivers were installed, it was time to meet my family for a special Birthday lunch at a fancy restaurant. Happy birthday me! I had a tuna steak in garlic sauce and it was fucking awesome. When I got home, I was fucking tired beyond beleif so I went to bed and didn't wake up until 1AM. I've just now, FINALLY been able to test this thing. Its fucking awesome. I love being able to click the Firefox button and have it load immediately, I love being able to go from turning the machine on to fully loaded desktop in 20 seconds, and most of all I love the gaming. I know gameplay is more important than graphics, but my god, I do love being able to run a game that looks as good as it plays. I've just been playing Medieval II: Total War with everything as high as it'll go and it looks absolutely stunning (when on the old machine it was rather clumpy and low-res and even then it was running at like 10fps), and even with a fully loaded battlefield the framerate is nice and high so it just looks completely smooth. I love it. As a side, I also love the hardware. I can "Crossfire" my graphics card with another one to give it a boost if I want to, the motherboard has so much functionality built in I didn't need to move over any of the stuff from my old machine I'd earmarked (Like the network card, additional 5 port-USB PCI card, FireWire etc), and I have 6 internal SATA connectors as well as one at the back (I can't imagine me needing more than the 750GB I already have but I'm not complaining). It runs cool too, the MoBo's stable at 30 celsius, and the gigantic CPU cooler system I bought keeps it at about 45 celsius (my old CPU used to run at 55-60 degrees when idle), plus the fan came with a knob to mount on the side of the case that I can use to turn the fan down if I'm not using the CPU much and it's too loud. Considering this, plus the fact that I have a lot of beer and birthday cake in the fridge, I'm a pretty happy bunny right now.
