That really depends on how much stock you put in the respect of your family and peers.

Playing devils advocate here, I really don't see why this is such a big deal. The guy is married sure, so his wife should be over the top mad at him, that's a given. But unless he used taxpayer money to pay for it, this really shouldn't have any bearing on his job. It's not like he was caught with a pound of cocaine or something. The man paid for sex, hardly a heinous crime.

Similarly, President Bill Clinton pushed into law a provision making a defendant's previous sexual history relevant to sexual harassment lawsuits. So I've little objection to the trouble he ran into after he perjured himself about his previous sexual history during a sexual harassment investigation. It was his just desserts.

As a matter of fact, when he was NY atty general, there was a state legislator who got caught with a hooker and there was questions about how the hooker was paid - state or personal funds. Spitzer's comment at the time was how he couldn't understand how he could do this to his family and that if it is true he was going to "steamroller him!"
