| Patrons | Well, I think that these days the prisons in America is too soft on criminals. To alot of the people in the prison system they are having an easier life than what they had on "the outside" and that's why alot of them repeat crimes when they get out. I meen c'mon! a law that says you must provide prisoners with cable tv! I've never been to jail, I work hard and pay taxes... I don't have cable. Prisoners not only get FREE cable, but they get to listen to raidos, play video games, shoot pool, work out, and of course they get their 3 squares a day, free medical care, clothing,ect... all the stuff that honest-hard-working-tax-paying citizens work so hard to gain for themselves, they get for free; plus get to visit their buddies and family that's also in prison. I've seen the inside of some of these so-called "hard-core" prisons and these people go out, rob a bank shooting someone in the prosess and they get to live better then I do. Yep, if the concequences (sp?) of commiting a crime were to live in tents, eat beans and bolonga, wearingf pink clothing, and having to bathe dogs or manually pave a road while being denied the PRIVLEDGE of watching Mtv or ESPN (or any tv for that matter) and they are actually treated like they [i]are[/] in prison, maybe more people would think about what they are doing before they actually go out and commit a crime. With what Sheriff Joe is doing by putting them to work may, to some, seem like "slave labor" I see it as while these people, durring commiting the crime, cost someone money by way of property damage, medical bills ect, they continue to cost the public in general by way of taxes, so yes, they should be doing something to contribute to the community they've hurt and if the end result is saving the general public millions in taxes... all the better

Criminals don't "intend" to go to prison. Sure, perhaps they don't see it as a large problem sometimes, but every criminal commits a crime with the same intent. Not getting caught. I'm sure that there's a few every now and then that want to go to jail, but not like you're describing it. Cable TV, 3 squares a day etc... is absolutely, positively in no way a fair trade for being told when to pee, when to eat, when to sleep etc.. Speaking as someone who has actually been in jail, there is no way whatsoever you're going to convince me that there is any significant amount of people that "choose" to go to jail. I guess you really have to be there to understand. I've only been to jail, not even prison, and I'm telling you, you're nuts if you think people "want" to be there.

| Religious Fanatic | Yeah, when it comes down to it, it's just a matter of crims believing they won't get caught...again. Quote:

BTW... I want to point out that Columbus is the only city in Ohio that when you are arrested, if you are injured durring your arrest, the city is required to not only treat your injuries incurred durring said arrest, but also treat any other medical conditions you may have had prior to your being in custody (and of course while in jail) and this also includes dental. Who pays for this? Taxpayers. Shit! I think I'm gonna go rob a liquor store. Not only can I get drunk off my ass while waiting for the cops, but I can get some much needed medical care that I can't get because of the afore-mentioned bankruptcy. But really, Yes, I realize that when a person is in custody the lose a LOT of their freedom, but they also get things that are NOT a right but a privillage. Would a person really die if they didn't have cable TV or spagetti for diner? A person CAN live off bolonga and water, yes they will get sick of it after a week or two, but oh well. And as far as the cable goes... shit, prisoners should have TV period! (IMO) Really, the only thing a person needs to surrive is food, water and air. Give 'em a tent, a sleep-roll, a bolonga sandwich 3 times a day and pink clothes to wear. No talking allowed (awwww got cut off from you friends & family did ya?, poor baby) No books or magazines, no tv, no pooltable, no weights and/or fittness center, no computers, no visitations, no mail, no phone calls, no cigaretts, no congi...coneg... aw, hell... no having your wife/husband stopping by for a fuck day. Just sit your ass in that cell, stare at the bars and think about what you did to be there for the next 10-15! I know that some of you feel diffrently than I do on this, but that's OK, I still love ya. And if any of you are reading this while behind bars, I still love ya and just hope that you've learned your lesson for when you get out.

| Senior Member | I demand that the jails and prisons make life hell for most inmates as reward to me, someone who either obeys the law or is discrete in his breaking of the law. My taxes pay for it, please indulge me.
