Default What happens if a DC Metro Transit cop doesn't like your attitude?

If you're a drunk 21-year-old girl, he'll tackle and molest you.

If the justice system is even close to legitimate, he no longer has a job and she's about to come into a lot of money.

But if experience tells me anything, this will be swept under the rug and the cop will get a one-week suspension and a transfer.

The temptation to kick the cop hard in the forehead would be so strong.

Which, of course, it's not; reading journalist Radley Balko's work would disabuse one of the idea we have a legitimate justice system. And probably make you an alcoholic, but I think most people here have that covered!

I've got to admit, I'm rather fond of tackling and molesting drunk 21 year old women myself. Of course, I usually do it after an evening of drinks...

In America, good cops get punished while abusive cops get rewarded.

Jason, it's not about reigning in the police (and believe me, I know that needs to be done), but you might find this interesting: Calif. Bar Reviewing Records of 130 Prosecutors for Discipline After Report - News - ABA Journal

I like Balko's suggestions for curtailing prosecutorial misconduct:
  • Make district attorney a civil service position, not an elected office. That would lessen the incentive for prosecutors exploit convictions to grandstand before voters.
  • Eliminate absolute immunity for prosecutors. Prosecutors should fear a trip to the cleaners if they lie and cheat to win convictions.
