Christmas Eve At The Astro Bar...

(The Lensman walks into a quiet bar some time around 4 am, Central Time...the place is empty except for Barkeep who is wiping the counters. The lights are low, with the main source of illumination being the huge fireplace. There's a string of multi-colored lights around the edges of some of the support columns. That Don Henly Christmas song is playing in the back ground....."Bells will be ringing...."

The Lensman lights a cigar and grabs a beer. )

The Lensman: Well the Bar is pretty quiet right now.

Barkeep: Yeah, that usually happens on Christmas Eve. I like the quiet time. Just listening to Christmas music, watching the fire. The christmas lights aren't fancy, but they do the job all the same.

The Lensman: Yeah, I know the feeling. For me, seeing one string of lights in the window of some small house in some small town does more for my Christmas spirit than a house and yard covered in a billion lights.

Barkeep: I hear ya.

The Lensman: Well if it's all the same to you...I think I'll just pull up a chair and sit in front of the fire.

Barkeep: Go right ahead, I may join you.

The Lensman: You know, you could take the day off. Get out, enjoy the rest of the night and day.

Barkeep: I think I just may do that. It might be good to get out of the place, even if it's just one day out of the year. But first, I think I'll sit with you awhile, kick back, watch the fire.....and drink to the patrons of the bar...everyone of 'em.

The Lensman: Amen to that, brotha.

(They drink to the patrons, then sit awhile listening to the soft music, while Christmas lights and a roaring fire flicker)
