| Religious Fanatic | Superman can also fly without the aid of webbing.

| Religious Fanatic | Yes, but Superman has a logo on his shirt. That is what earns you respect in this world, not your senses.

![]() | Alot of people prefer to read Spider-Man because they feel it's more "real" than Supes. I feel this is due to mishandling of Supes through the years. But one things for sure...remember that scene in the Spider-Man movie where that Goblin bomb blows up in his face? I bet ole' Spidey would've given alot to have been Superman at that point! The interesting thing about Superman, is in just how much his mythology has evolved and shaped the character through the decades. I have DC Comics Superman Archives of Action Comics. I think modern comics giant Mark Waid writes the intro, and he was completely, I mean COMPLETELY surprised at the Superman found within. To paraphrase him "I expected to find that boyscout that we've all grown up with, that champion of the status quo. It surprised me that when the police were firing bullets, their target was often Superman! Here's a character who has power, and revels in using it." A case in point is in the first Supes story, he confronts a wife beater, bitchslaps him and when the guy begs for mercy, Supes tells him he's getting another bitchslap and then delivers. As comics legend John Byrne tells it, Supes in the early days was far more subversive than Batman has ever been. Supes in those days stood against the establishment, and was a champion of the everyman, the workers and the oppressed. This is why I get pissed when I see Supes constantly portrayed in certain stories (like Dark Knight Returns) as a dupe of the government. I've always wanted to see, and there's a certain comics writer who's name escapes me right now who wants to write, a comic set in the '30's about the Superman of old. It would be a "mature audience" book, but it would show a more realistic and long not seen portrayal of the Superman of then. That Superman was strong, not move planets strong. Couldn't fly, but could leap very far (hence the phrase "leap over a tall building in a single bound) had skin that "only a bursting shell could penetrate", and...I think...X-Ray vision. No heat vision, freeze breath, or super hearing (though I could be wrong on this last one).
