Anyone know how to make old DOS games work in XP? I'm trying to play "Star Trek Judgment Rites" and "25th Anniversary" again...

LOL, me too, and it's proving impossible (in Win2k).

I can't even get it to work in DOS mode on my old machine with 98SE, because I don't have enough extended or EMS Memory or something.

Acctually, I got it to work in SE's DOS Prompt, but with no sound. which was a drag...

I really wish I could run old stuff on my new machine. Rockstar Games has the original GTA up for download on their site, with updated drivers so that it works on newer machines, It would be nice if other developers would do this, but it wouldn't be practical, I suppose...

Ha ha ha... thats a good one.

Unless you set-up a separate DOS partition on your machine, its not going to work. The command prompt application in XP is not true DOS, just a sort of emulator. You can do basic commands like "ping" in there, but thats about it. Besides the fact that if you are using XP, you more than likely formated your drive using NTFS, which DOS games don't like.

OK, here's one for me: How do I get the bugger to work on my SE machine? i.e. how do I get DOS to give me some more Extended Memory, or EMS, or XMS, or whatever?

you have to edit your config sys to allow more high memory.Do this run sys edit under the run command and go to your config sys window copy and paste what it says here for me and i will set it up for you.

OK, sys edit worketh not, edit sys doth work though I see no pane for "config sys".

When I try sys edit, or sys config, it says I have a parameter missing.

Actually I found a program that works. I've now got "Star Trek 25th Anniversary" and "Judgment Rites" going on my WinXP.

Care to share the name of the program that helped you. I have 460 old DOS games including Populous, Police Quest, Space Quest etc... And I would LOVE to get them working.
