![]() | Holy shit. That's really all I can say. Tonight, noted freelance writer James Perloff came to our campus, invited by the Christian Fellowship, to speak about the topic of Creation vs Evolution. He's written two books on the topic, "Tornado in a Junkyard" and "The Case Against Darwin." Can I tell you that saying Athiesm and Darwinistic Evolutionism were primarily responsible for the actions of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin is perhaps NOT the best way to ingratiate yourself onto an audience that is mostly skeptical in the first place? That's what he did. He said athiests and those who believe in evolution are like Hitler and Stalin because their moral centers have been removed. Then he proceeded to make a presentation that lasted an hour and a half that was amateurish at best. I can boil it down to him basically saying that evolution is an assumption, and assumptions are bad. But then he would go off and make a number of assumptions about other topics. He also used a variety of bizarre analogies, some of which didn't make any sense. For example, when someone brought up vestigal organs or body parts such as the appendix, he said that the appendix did have a function. When someone said that you can live without an appendix, he said that someone could just as easily live without a hand. I don't know about you, but losing a hand would have a much, MUCH larger effect on me than the removal of my appendix. The man also has a history of being a Southern apologist for the Civil War, and has written for a magazine that publicly condones slavery. It's gotten the entire campus riled up. It's bizarre, and incredible at the same time. Basically, everyone there said he was nuts, and some people even stormed out in anger at certain parts. A friend of mine raised his hand during the Q and A period and told him he was "a silly dude". Argh. Argh. I don't mind going in with an open mind for new ideas, but this guy was so totally against that, it was almost sickening. And I feel very much offended that I, believing in evolution, would be compared to Hitler or Stalin!

| The Awesome One | Well of course, cause I know when someone says the word atheist, the first thing I think of is Nazi or Commie.... *rolls eyes* As for evolution being a theory, there are certainly more facts to back up evolution than the idea of creation. He's saying that evolution is an assumption, well what the hell would you call faith in creationism. I think somewhere down the line, that faith and assumption are pretty much the same damned thing. The question I have is, was this a voluntary lecture, or was it required by one of your courses?
