![]() | OH man, we got to see these guys live last week and it was fantastic. For the uninformed, Velvet Revolver is Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots and the remnants of Guns and Roses. They've got an album out, "Contraband" that kicks ass. Seeing them live is like seeing three bands in one, since they played VR, STP and GnR stuff. It was totally awesome. They didn't quite gel for the first couple songs, though. It seemed very much like each member of the band was competing for our attention, and the songs were a little messy. Then they played "Fall to Pieces", which Scott said was the song that brought them together, and, imagine that, the concert really came together. Every song after that was a joy to listen to. The best part of the night, though, came about halfway through. The lights went down, and the band took a five-minute breather. Then, the lights come back up, and my man Slash comes on stage. He reaches behind one of the speakers, and pulls out his top-hat (!!), lights up a cigarrette and sits down with an accoustic guitar. At that point, I turned to my friend Andy and said, 'He put on the hat! You KNOW this is gonna be good!' And it was. The rest of the band came out and they began to play classic Guns and Roses and Stone Temple Pilots stuff. It was fantastic. I highly recommend these guys if they come near you. I'm glad they added this second Massachusetts date, and I'm really glad we even got tickets. The first date sold out like nothing, but the second was selling for a really long time. We kept going to Ticketmaster, but their computers were down, and we didn't feel like paying an extra 15 bucks a ticket for their stupid shipping online.

| Religious Fanatic | Audioslave is made from the same kinda thing (remnants of two bands fused into one "superband"), could be a trend.

![]() | Audioslave is great, too. But I don't think Cornell can do Rage as well as Weiland can do Guns and Roses. After the show, my friends and I were joking about a band made up of members of Aerosmith, Van Halen and Led Zeppelin and how we'd never need sex again after a show like that.

| Religious Fanatic | What I'd really like to see would be Dave Mustaine doing something with Metallica - he would't be replacing anyone, but it'd be cool

![]() | Except they hate each other... But yeah, that would be cool.

| The Awesome One | Yeah, I've been listening to VR since they came out with Slither. Fall to pieces cemented them as a good band for me. I'd love to see them live. And Cymro, what I would love to see, is if James could even sing Megadeth songs, he and Dave have such distinctive voices and styles, it'd be interesting to see. Except of course for the whole blood feud thing. BTW. have you listened to the Megadeth song Mechanix yet? Sound familiar?

| Religious Fanatic | Well, I donno if they still hate eachother or if Dave just hates James or whatever, as I recall, Metallica did contact him to sort things out during their whole "The band is going to start acting like the Brady Bunch" thing after James came back from rehab, and he supposedly appears at some point in the film where he admits to Lars that he still regrets being kicked out of Metallica, James also mentions speaking with Dave in an interview as well. Plus there's the fact that Mustaine has been more or less clean since 1990, and re-evaluated his position, and I saw him hanging out with them on the Guns 'n' Roses tour. As for the voices...that would be part of the fun. I bet James could have managed it 20 years ago but not anymore, though I wouldn't put a few songs like Punishment Due or Peace Sells past him. Pretty much any union of two bands is cool though. Yeah, Mechanix was the first one of his songs I heard, and all I've got to say is that I'm glad Hetfield re-did the lyrics. I've been trying to get the remastered "Killing Is My Business..." for the last couple of months but odly enough it's the only album where it's harder to find a remaster than the original, and apparently it's the one that benefited the most from the remix. I quite like Velvet Revolver, though I prefered him in STP. Luckily they got the good part of GnR.

![]() | I think James could do it. He can still be gruff when he wants, his voice is just deeper than it used to be. I haven't heard the new Megadeth, since I was never really into them much anyway, but what I've heard I think would be cool to hear with James. Lars and the new guy Trajillo were on the radio a few weeks ago when the band played in Boston, and they talked about how Lars can always tell when there's a new Megadeth album out because "Mustaine bitches about being kicked out of Metallica." He was like, "That dude was in our band for like, less than a year, and we didn't even have a fucking album. What the hell does he have to bitch about anymore?" So I don't know where to stand on the Mustaine issue. It sounds like a lot of conflicting information floating around, and it's hard to sift through it all.

| The Awesome One | I think any of the real issues are long since over, but Mustaine seems to hold onto a little bit of the resentment. As for Lars, well, he's a mouthpiece. I think if anyone was going to go, it should have been him and not Newstead. He's a mediocre drummer at best, he's abrassive in a bad way, and doesn't know when to shut up.

| Religious Fanatic | Similar sentiments here. Although Lars has always been a good marketer for the band, he's always been a prick, and let's face it, he's the only member of the band who hasn't got any talent. And of course, he was the one behind that whole Napster shit.
