| The Awesome One | WOW! This is what Enterprise is supposed to be! The conflict between the Vulcans and the Andorians, brought to a close by the meddling of some do-gooder Humans. Perfect! The interactions between Soval, Trip, and Shran, PERFECT! And of course, the best part of the episode... MAJOR SPOILER!!! The secret meeting between the former Administrator of the high command and a Romulan agent.. yes, a Romulan agent at the end of the episode... ABSOLUTELY GLORIUS!!! Fuck Battlestar Galactica, if this is what I can expect from Enterprise from now on, I proudly say that Star Trek is back at the top of my list!!!!

![]() | Also, I think you mean 4x09, since 1x09 was the uber-shitty "Civilization". Unless you're making some kind of implication like this is the first "true" season of ENT. I've seen that one making the rounds...

| The Awesome One | I think he was the Vulcan commando actually. The one that said he served under T'pol at some point.

![]() | I had the feeling that ENT was going to shape up after a while. The din against B+b was at it's loudest roar ever during the first three seasons of ENT, and I think it shows in the difference that Coto has brought to the series. Most of my major complaints with the show have been fixed now. And regardless of the petty attacks against the show now that it's so much better are nothing short of humorous. There is absolutely a measure of character development that previously didn't exist on the show, even if only slightly improved, the whole package is just a better rendition of a STAR TREK series than ENT was in it's infancy. I believe that ENT will run it's full seven years, and then I think Paramount is going to release a totally CGI film... mark my words, a STAR TREK epic motion picture rendered completely with computer graphics, you heard it here first. |

![]() | The thing that bugs me is that it's still the ARCHER SHOW!!! instead of being "Star Trek: Enterprise." Once again, Archer is made out to be the savior of absolutely everything, instead of the more plausible (and slightly more necessary) option of having T'Pol be the one to get Surak's Katra. After having her character ripped apart last year, and considering her feelings about the Syranites, it would have made much more sense for T'Pol to carry the Katra, to find the Kir'Shara, and all that. The scenes with Surak could have been him teaching her how to be a "real" Vulcan, and perhaps she could have cured her own Panar syndrome, instead of relying on T'Pau to do it for her. They could have built T'Pol's character back up from the bottom, but instead they continue to make her the damsel type (she takes far less physical punishment before getting knocked out in the fight with the Vulcan commandoes than do Archer to T'Pau) and secondary to everyone around her. That said, the other side of the story was pretty good. I liked the exchanges between Soval and Shran. In fact, of these last three episodes, I think Soval is the character that shines the most. He'd always been such a tool in previous episodes, and then all of a sudden he became this fantastically rich character. Props to Gary Graham for his performance. He really shined.

![]() | In regards to the T'Pol character, I think that Coto has figured out a way to work well with what he has to work with. At this point, it's vital that T'Pol not be a typical Vulcan in any way. I think that now she'll start showing some of her primal Vulcan urges, not the sexual ones, but the unrestrained and violent ones. I remember once on TOS when Spock threw a bowl of soup at nurse Chapel, that worried me and I thought about Vulcan rage for the first time. I think that when T'Pol finds herself backed into a corner now, she won't be a damsel in distress, she'll respond like a rabid trapped rat, dealing devestation rivaled only by the Incredible Hulk. While Archer is now more understanding of what Vulcans currently are, he'll be shocked by some of what T'Pol will do, but the Enterprise and the Earth/Vulcan/Andorian alliance will need her in order to stay cohesive. I also think that the reason that ENT is the Archer show is that it is written into his contract that way. I think he may have had something to do with Coto joining the staff, and this is his payoff for it. Bakula knows STAR TREK, so does Blalock, I think that they understand what the fans are feeling to some extent, and the survival of STAR TREK will also mean the survival of their careers. That said, I really would like to see more of the other characters. There needs to be a mini-arc devoted to Hoshi and Travis, Malcolm needs his own story since he's pretty much a loner. Focusing entirely on the captain was fine during the TOS years, but this is a different time, and there really ought to be a wider spread for the focus. The storyline could be the same, it could start with Archer, but by the second installment of an arc, I would like to see Archer nearly completely out of the spotlight while someone else, maybe even a MACO or two, dealing directly with the continuation of the story, and then bring it all together for the finale. But anyway, the storytelling is much richer now. I used to watch ENT to see how low it could possibly go, but I'm happy to see the show shaping up into something that it hasn't been stylistically for a long time. |
