![]() | I dunno. I mean, I like Cox's books, but they're just so over-stuffed with continuity references that it's ridiculous. Yeah, it's cool to tie a few things from the universe together when you can, but the level he does it is wayyyy too much.

![]() | I like continuity references, but there comes a point where it's definitely pointless. Careful use of references from other TREK would result in the mind filling in the gaps, but I don't like when the writers try to do all the thinking for the reader. ENTERPRISE seems to be on the verge of doing this. I actually thought that the incidental appearance of the Tholians on ENT did this very well. By contrast, the Ferengi incident wasn't all that great. The writers of TREK material need to realize that the members of the fanbase who can read are also generally intelligent. It's okay to use existing material as a jumping off point, but the line must be drawn when it comes to just raping and pillaging the work of others. |

| It's me again | I think that while there are a bunch of references, it is solely used to fill in some of the gaps between Space Seed and TWOK..i.e. How did Khan know Chekov? How were the Ceti eels found? How did they come to know how to use them as torture devices? Why didn't Terrell know one planet from the other? etc... It worked well I thought, not too much here.

I was a kid when I saw TWOK and that was pretty much the assumed thing... hell, do we really need a book to tell us that? References is one thing, but there is such a thing as redundancy.
