![]() | This apparently aired during the "Smallville" season finale, but I couldn't be assed to sit through that crap for 90 minutes for the 10 I wanted to see. http://www.alldumb.com/item/11885/ This clip is on Yahoo!movies, and features crime boss Falcone bullying Bruce Wayne in a bar. http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/batmanbegins.html I hope this movie fucking owns. After the "Episode III" debacle, it'd better.

| The Awesome One | Yeah I know, the new Batmobile was the only thing that I thought I might have to "look passed" in order to enjoy the movie, but after seeing that clip my fears are gone.

![]() | The Score: James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer In a nutshell: Good, but not hugely memorable. "Batman Begins" marks the first collaboration by big-time composers James Newton Howard ("Unbreakable", "ER", "The Fugitive") and Hans Zimmer ("Gladiator", "The Rock"). While Zimmer claimed in an IGN interview that the score was a true collaboration, you really can't help but think that Zimmer handled the action sequences and Newton the quieter, dramatic moments. There's good use of mixing electronic synth elements with live orchestra, especially in the opening track "Vespertilio" (all the track names are kinds of bats) which uses the synth and percussion to mimic the sounds of bat wings flapping. The track creates an excellent atmosphere for the album. But that's really what this album has: atmosphere. Aside from that, however, the album just feels very... standard. The dramatic moments are laden with strings, the action cues with driving brass and percussion. One track, "Myotis", is very Zimmer and I'd swear it was lifted right out of "Gladiator"... which in itself was lifted right out of Zimmer's previous score for "The Peacemaker" and melded with bits from "Mars: The God of War" by Gustav Holst. But the lack of a truly memorable theme hurts it. Danny Elfman ("Batman", "Batman Returns") and Shirley Walker ("Mask of the Phantasm") gave Batman truly memorable theme tunes that you could easily find yourself humming while listening to the album. "Batman Begins" sort of has a theme, and it is discernable, but not something you're likely to remember years down the road. It is not a theme that will likely become synonymous with Batman. "Batman Begins" is by no means a bad score (like, say, Eliot Goldenthal's "Batman Forever"), but you can't help but be slightly disappointed - mostly because of huge expectations based on what's come before. A solid "B" effort, worth $9.99 on iTunes.

| The Awesome One | You just KNOW it's gonna be a good movie when someone not only critiques the music, but does it negatively.
