Default SG-1 game cancelled

I was kinda lookin' forward to this one. Hopefully someone else picks it up.

IGN.com:
Quote:
August 5, 2005 - In what will surely come as a disappointing shock to fans, JoWood Productions announced today a halt to the development of Stargate SG-1: The Alliance which was slated to be released this October.

According to a news update at JoWood's official site, the company stated that the decision to cancel their agreement with the developer Perception happened because "the title in its current form...does satisfy neither our quality requirements nor the fans' expectations...we now simply have lost confidence in their [Perception's] ability to finish this project in time and sufficient quality." The announcement goes on to state that JoWood has asked Perception to repay the company for its development investment and future expenses.

Despite the seemingly finality of this announcement, JoWood states that once the company receives the game's source code and assets from Perception, JoWood will consider other developers if the company deems it "economically viable" to complete the title. In addition, the company leaves open the possibility that the title might be transferred to next-generation consoles.

If there are any further developments in the Stargate saga, you can be sure that we will keep you informed.

And perhaps not?

August 12, 2005 - In what is quickly becoming a very nasty dispute, Australian developer Perception fired back at Austrian publisher JoWooD for statements made last week
regarding the status of Stargate SG-1: The Alliance.

In a news posting on Perception's website, the company states that "any suggestion that JoWooD has rights to Stargate SG-1: The Alliance upon termination of the contract is incorrect and not based on commercial or legal fact." Perception states that they, not JoWooD, are the official licensee of Stargate SG-1: The Alliance and that development of the game will continue "uninterrputed" at the developer's Sydney studio.
