Default Well, they finally did it...

Metallica, the band that practically started the war on digital file sharing, has added their catalog to Apple's iTunes music store. Interesting, though I don't actually intend to buy any of it since I've got it all already. Some of the decisions this band makes are downright confusing. First, they hate the music downloading. Then, with the release of "St. Anger", they offer free live downloads with purchase. Then they hold out forever before allowing their studio music to be purchased digitally.

Weird.

No one could ever accuse Metallica of not being good businessmen who happen to be good musicians.

None of it is weird at all Brikar. Metallica was never opposed to digital file sharing, they were opposed to they're music being downloaded for free without limit.

The downloads offered with St Anger while free, were hardly spectacular. They consist mostly of live stuff.

And holding out on the legal downloads was a marketing ploy plain and simple.

I've just read that Metallica will also be guest-starring on "The Simpsons" next year, in addition to The White Stripes, Dr. Phil, Natalie Portman and Kiefer Sutherland.

I hope Kiefer's is a Jack Bauer joke.

I'll never understand how people can believe they have a right to free music or movies.

I just wish the industry would stop suing 12 year olds and give a valid alternative. But, characteristically, they're slow to respond to any new movement, deciding instead to be dragged kicking and screaming and tearing their nails into a new era when they SHOULD be focused on reaping the benefits of the digital age.

No shit. Just look at iTunes for a model. Make the cost reasonable, make the music of good quality, make it easily accessible, and people will pay for it.

Treat your customers poorly, and they'll go elsewhere to get what they want. It's called competition. The music industry has been gouging its customers for eons, but now the Internet has given people an alternative channel of acquiring music. People aren't necessarily out to steal music; they're simply saving money.

Sure, some do think they're entitled to free music. But I have to believe that they're in the minority. Certainly not enough of them to make the RIAA treat everyone like criminals. Fucktards and douchebags, all of them!!!

I dunno, Itunes can make the downloads as cheap as 1 cent a piece. That's still more expensive than free. I don't think I'm entitled to free music, but if I can get it as easily as I can, I'm not gonna go pay for it. It's a matter of common sense as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I think equating the pirating of music with grand theft auto is a little much. As far as monetary value, it's more like shoplifting
