No, he just made three really shitty movies in a row that made far more money than they deserved to.

When movies make that much money and appeal to that many people, you have to admit they're not bad films. You just don't like them.

I believe later generations whose expectations have not been colored by childhood memories and 20 years of waiting will view the prequels favorably.

No, they're shitty films. Poor screenwriting, bad acting... Future generations will look at them and wonder what all the fuss was, because they're just not any good. My nostalgia has nothing to do with it, I've got plenty of issues with the original trilogy, but none of those offenses are half as bad or as numerous as the ones that plague these pathetically limp prequels.

Popularity can never be used to measure quality, especially when a product has as much brand power as Star Wars.

That's true to an extent. But no bad movie will rank amongst the top money earners of all-time. It will enjoy success for a little while and then fizzle when people learn it stinks.

No, not even Titanic was a bad film. It was just a chick flick, so guys don't get it.

As for the power of branding, that explains why Star Trek: Nemesis burned up the box office, doesn't it? People will go see movies, even if they suck, just because of their name.
