| The Awesome One | Ok, so I'm gonna assume you've seen the first part to this episode. Brief summary of part 1 is, They find Ancients alive on an Ancient warship. There's actually a plausible explanation to it all to. Ancients come back to Atlantis, evict the earth expedition, Woolsey and O'Neil go to Atlantis to act as liasons. Episode ends with the Ancients in control of Atlantis, and a garbled message at SGC from Oneil on Atlantis announcing an Asuran (Pegasus replicators) attack on the city, then Shepard et all of course defy orders to attempt a rescue. I can't tell you how much I loved The Return part 1. The only thing that came anywhere near bothering me, was the inclusion of Ronin and Tayla on the rescue team. I still think these two are utterly useless characters. Even with that however, one of the best SGA eps so far. THAT BEING SAID.... The Return Part 2 sucked so much ass I feel like throwing up. Biggest complaint! The episode starts with all the Ancients already dead. That's it. No Ancient prisoners, no witnessing the Asurams whiping out the last of them defiantly, NOTHING. We get a throwaway line from one of the Asurans about all the Ancients being dead. Now on it's own, this doesn't seem like a big deal... but O'Neil and WOOLSEY survived! The Ancients, IN THEIR OWN CITY, couldn't survive, or hide etc.. but O'Neil who I don't think has ever been IN the city, and a damned POLITICIAN survived!! It's not just that they died that pisses me off, the way they died completley disregards the need to have them in the story to begin with. They were pointless. There are many other ways they could have evacuated the city without having to waste the Ancients. Now, there were a couple of unanswered questions that could turn out to be good plot devices in future episodes. We never learn what happened to the Ancient warship that must have been left adrift in part 1. I'm sure they could fix the hyperdrive somehow. I would assume that other than the hyperdrive the ship is working fine. Next, the Asurans were powering up the stardrive through the use of their own ZPMs. Now I can only assume that the ZPMs are still installed in Atlantis, giving the city full power. If they explain away the ZPMs in the next episode with some kind of overload or something, I'm gonna be really mad. Other than that, this two parter that started with so much promise, was basically pointless.

![]() | Alright, just finished it... I didn't think it sucked outright, but I was pretty disappointed. It's a storyline that should easily have been spread over at least three episodes. The Ancients were COMPLETELY wasted, and that's the thing that breaks the entire episode. To simply throw away something so completely monumental was downright stupid. That said, I did like the sort of Die-Hard-y bits that we got. It was nice to see O'Neill back in action, even if I felt he was written a bit too assholish. The final plan was nifty, too, especially the part with tricking Woolsey. The integration of some of the SG-1 cast worked well, too. What this episode really serves to highlight, though, is one thing - I wish Sci-Fi had told the producers much, much earlier on that this would be SG-1's final season. Imagine the final half of SG-1's last season being an all-out Atlantis crossover with Ancients and Ori and the two teams backing each other up across several episodes... What a wasted opportunity for some truly epic storytelling.

The Woolsey thing I found a little predictable, as McKay was explaining "Plan C" (the humor in all the plans was pretty damn funny btw) to O'Neil and Woolsey I kind of figured that there was something up. That feeling was magnified when all the teams were caught without a shot being fired.

![]() | Yeah. Especially where Ronan just turns and pulls out his regular gun, I was like, "Something's obviously up..."

![]() | Although, I did get a good chuckle out of the Replicators calling the jumper a "Gateship".
