| The Awesome One | GODDAMMIT!!!!! The explained away the ZPMs!!!!! DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!!!!!!!! OK! So the Antarctica outpost needing one, no problem, I understand that, but they're gonna put the other one on the Odyssey??? What the fuck?? I would REALLY like to know who's braindead idea that was.... Does anyone remember how easily the Odyssey was captured by what are essentially space pirates? Does anyone remember how easily the Orii ships wiped out a LARGE group of ships, including a ship of the same class as the Odyssey? And best of all... does anyone else think that using a power device strong enough to power an entire city the size of Atlantis, to give a ship a boost to the shields, just a teensy bit overkill???? It's like hooking up a nuclear reactor to a radio controlled car!!! I swear to god... this is all I could think about througout this entire episode. There was nothing else on my mind, the rest of the story was insignificant when compared to my utter disbelief that the writers have now instilled in me. I've got a crazy idea.... if the Orii are such a big problem, how about the Atlantis team puts all their resources into fixing the damned stardrive, and taking Atlantis to Earth to defend it with ALL THREE ZPMs!! I mean, does that really seem to out there for you? GODDAMMIT!!!!

![]() | I guess I understand their reasoning for doing it, although I wish "Atlantis" wouldn't play so fast and loose with all these ZPMs like they do. The Orii did wipe out a fleet... none of which had shields or weapons powered by a ZPM. It might be just the thing to punch through an Orii shield, which we've seen so far has been practically impossible. Aside from that, the episode itself wasn't so bad. Kind of predictable, but pretty interesting. I thought the effects for a "coronal mass ejection" would look a bit different than a beam of energy coming from the surface of the sun, but, oh well. Ronan snoring while Teyla tries to teach him meditation was chuckleworthy, as were a few other bits.

The missiles have no possible use for the ZPM, unless you plan on blowing IT up for one really good shot. The rail guns are mechanical.... I mean really, how much more powerful can you make a solid projectile? The snoring bit was pretty funny I have to admit. That's about all I enjoyed about this episode though.

![]() | To be perfectly honest, I don't know what a rail gun is. It looked to me to shoot some kind of purple dealie, so I figured it was an energy weapon. *shrug* So yeah, I guess if that's all they've got, then the ZPM isn't good for much else than the shields. Perhaps they'll equip some kind of new weapon to go along with it? Guess we won't know until SG-1 comes back.

| The Awesome One | Rail guns are real world technology, the first ones were built in the 70's. It has to do with using magnetic fields and such to propel non explosive ammunition. The idea is that the ammo would be cheaper, lighter and safer to transport. The rail gun ammo would be just as damaging if not moreso than regular ammo because it's travelling alot faster. The best example of this I could find on Wiki: Railguns are being pursued as weapons with projectiles that do not contain explosives, but are given extremely high velocities: 3500 m/s (11,500 ft/s) or more (for comparison, the M16 rifle has a muzzle speed of 975-1025 m/s, or 3,000 ft/s)
