| The Awesome One | I've been on a serious cartoon kick lately. I've watched the first two seasons of Batman Beyond, and most of the third as well as the "Return of the Joker" movie. I'm thouroughly hooked on it. So next I'm downloading Batman, then I'm gonna start on Superman. I watched alot of JLU a year ago but wasn't that taken by it. I guess I'm more of a fan of the core heroes than I am of Hawkgirl et all.. Anyone else here into these?

![]() | I own all of these shows on DVD. Here are my thoughts: "Batman" - Fantastic, utterly fantastic show. Without a doubt one of the finest animated programs ever. Took a stumble a bit with the fourth season, when the animation was retooled to be in line with the Superman show, but there are some great episodes there, too. "Superman" - A fine series, not quite as strong as Batman, but also with some fantastic episodes and a superb cast. The Darkseid/Apokolips episodes are just friggin' gold. "Batman Beyond" - Also a fine series, though I never felt Terry's rogues gallery was ever truly as interesting as Bruce's. Again many excellent episodes, especially ones that deal with the legacy of Batman, and the "Return of the Joker" movie is one of my favorite Batman outings ever. "Justice League" - Meh. The animation is nice, but the writing was rarely anything to gush over. I thought expanding the episodes into two and three parters would allow them more depth, but really what it did instead was drag out all the action sequences more than ever before. The switch from full orchestra to synth music is glaring, and my hatred of Green Lantern spoils many episodes. That said, there's some awesome stuff here, too. The three parter at the end of the first season with the League fighting in an alternate World War II is great fun. Superman vs Darkseid fights get better every time. Batman was tragically underutilized here, but that's because when he was around, all you could do was notice how much more awesome he is than every other League member. "Justice League Unlimited" - More meh. The first half of the first season is pretty lame, focusing too much on C-listers that I simply don't care about like Booster Gold and Green Arrow. Once the second half kicks in and the core Leaguers return and the Cadmus arc ramps up, it becomes some of the best storytelling the animated DC shows have produced, though. The second season is more meh, but a few gems thrown in.

Actually, that was the thing that bugged me the most about Beyond. It always seemed to be troubled teens, or some psycho teacher of Terry's. Why did all the crime happen around Hamilton Hill High School. The two-parter with Talia stand out in my mind as being good. Quote:
