Default Well, it's finally happened.

I've been trying all day but I can't listen to "And Justice for All..." without getting irritated by the production and switching to MOP or RTL.

That took long enough... I stopped listening to Justice about 10 years ago.

I've only had it for about 2 or 3 years, listening to it only sparingly.

Besides "Blackened", "One" and "Harvester of Sorrow" there wasn't really anything that really stood out on there, but the songs were ok, and I could listen to them if I wasn't so pissed off at Ulrich's clicky excuse for drums.

I always liked the title track myself. Justice, Blackened and Harvester are the only decent songs on their as far as I'm concerned.

I got sick of One real quick, just from being overplayed. I think One ranks right up there with Enter Sandman as far as songs that were killed by mainstream.

I've always had this problem with that album. I've wished for years they'd go back and rerecord it or remix it or something because it really should be much better than it is. I've even heard them in interviews saying they don't care much for how the album sounds.

My personal theory on the album, and Metallica in general, is that Justice was the last Cliff album. Despite the fact that he was dead, I'm sure that the majority of the "harmony" and "epic" feel to some of the songs was probably HIS writing, credited to band members who couldn't come up with that on their own.

It makes alot of sense when you look at the Black album. It was a complete departure from the previous style that had stayed pretty steady throughout 4 albums.

A rerecording could work for sure. Just look at Megadeth. Mustaine went back and remastered all the classic Deth albums, andd even rerecorded alot of the songs from scratch. IMO they sound great compared to the originals in most cases. I don't see why Metallica couldn't do that with at least one album, that they admit doesn't sound good.

I knew that he'd remastered them, I didn't know the songs were re-recorded. The only Megadeth CD I have is the live in Beunos Aires album. Which is pretty awesome. Excellent quality for a live recording.

He didn't re-record all of the songs from scratch, most of it was just a re-mix and remaster of the originals, but he recorded some new overdubs where the old tapes didn't stand up to scrutiny or were lost.

You should really try some of the old pre-"Countdown..." 'Deth records, BTW, they take some getting used to, but they're really rewarding once you get into them. "Killing is my Business" is just as flawed as Kill 'Em All, but makes up for it with pure aggression on "Skull Beneath the Skin" and "Rattlehead". "Peace Sells" is a fantastic record, somewhere between RTL and MOP for quality, "So Far So Good So What" is kinda crappy but it has "In My Darkest Hour" and "Set the World Afire" which are two of the best Megadeth songs ever, "Rust in Peace" is far more complex than anything Metallica's ever dreamed of creating, and is the best they've ever done.

2004's "The System Has Failed" is also pretty good.

No, I realize he didn't re-record them ALL, I was under the impression that a couple were re-recorded entirely though.

And I have gotten into the older Deth since the albums were re-released. Peace Sells and Rust in Peace are my preferred ones, and you're right, RIP is ten times more technical, and enjoyable than anything Metallica has ever done IMO.

The System Has Failed was a hell of alot better than The World Needs a Hero which stunk up my music collection like bad eggs. I'm really into United Abominations. With the last three albums Mustaine has proved that he can still do the old thrash stuff, and he didn't record "Risk" because of any loss of talent.
