Default "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare"

Just got this for PS3. I've never played any of the other COD games so I wasn't really sure what to expect, except having heard that it was really great.

Well...

What a sweet fuckin' game this is. I'm just after the Middle East nuke detonation. Not sure how far into the game that is, but it feels like a bit of a ways.

I pretty much suck at it. I get wailed on mercilessly and it takes me a while to clear each area. But the action in this game, the graphics, the atmosphere, all of it is hardcore awesome. The levels where I get to man guns from a helicopter or plane are great fun, too.

I kind of want to pick up the new "World at War", but honestly I'm a little done with World War II at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I love me some "Medal of Honor", but I got COD4 because I wanted something different.

Luckily, "Modern Warfare 2" is due out in fall of '09. Long wait.

I have it. Great game. It's got virtually no replayability, aside from the killing people enticement. But make sure you watch the credits ALL THE WAY THROUGH. It's very important.

I posted about it ages ago, it was the first thing I got to test out the new box. It is awesome, and while the singleplayer is a bit boring to play through twice, the multiplayer lasts a long time (though you will be at a distinct disadvantage if you go on it now).

I figured as much. I'm not much of a multiplayer gamer anyhow, but I'll probably try to give it a go anyway. I still feel like I got more than my money's worth out of the singleplayer (it was a gift).

Just finished the single player campaign. Freakin' cool. I liked the epilogue mission on the airliner. I'll probably go through the single player missions again to pick up more of those laptops and such.

I gave "World At War" a go today, I'm only on level 2 and I'm already convinced I won't like it as much as I did COD4. I have a feeling it has something to do with it not being produced by Infinity Ward.

The first thing that jumps out is the distinct lack of cutscenes and scripted stuff. In COD 4 I just remember starting it, being thoroughly wowed by the graphics, and subsequently the film-like boat mission, complete with cool lines like "I like to keep this for close encounters", then that credits sequence with Al-Assad. WaW so far has basically amounted to shooting Japs and getting jumped by retards yelling "BANZAAAAAI!!!".

Honestly, the thing that keeps me from checking out "World At War" is the return to World War II. I got "Modern Warfare" primarily because I was looking to get away from WWII shooters for a while. I have "Resistance: Fall of Man" which is sci-fi, but still very rooted in a World War II kind of vibe because of its alternate history storyline. It's a great game, but I've played sooooo much "Medal of Honor" that I really need a break from that whole genre.

Well, my current mind is that I'll borrow it from a friend but wouldn't buy it, the reviews have confirmed my suspicion that it feels more like a big expansion pack and not a new game.

The most intriguing aspect of it is the bonus mode with the zombie Nazis.

Well I ended up getting this for Christmas from my sister and decided to give it a go, and yeah, it's just not as awesome an experience as Modern Warfare. There's no real story to speak of, just a series of missions that progress along the timeline of the war.

Early on it tries to make me care about the death of a US Marine, but I had no idea who he was or anything and since most of my unit are nameless grunts anyway it was all just kind of wasted.

Props for the voice talent, though - Kiefer Sutherland and Gary Oldman are top-notch choices.

As for the actual gameplay, it feels very similar of course, and runs on the same engine, but in terms of the design, there are parts of this game that are simply not fun to play. The Russian tank level is just just downright aggravating, and certain parts where I have to clear bunkers of Japanese infantry gets old quick.
