| Man-whore | Based on a strong recommendation from a friend who has a pretty good taste in movies, another friend and I went to see Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino" last night. It is truly an excellent movie, and a nice coda to Eastwood's long and distinguished career. Eastwood turns in an excellent performance in the role of the angry, isolated old man facing a world that has passed him by, and the supporting actors (his handful of old friends, his very young priest, and the influx of immigrant neighbors) all handle their roles very well. The story is that of a man who finally learns to live even while he's facing death, and whoever wrote the screenplay did an excellent job. The final turns of the story are unexpected, yet in retrospect make perfect sense. The dialogue is in turns funny, heartbreaking and brutally honest, yet always remains very "real." Go see it. Two thumbs way up. Last edited by Sam Cogley; 01-23-2009 at 07:38 AM. |
