If you had to give someone an example of anime to peak their interest in the genre, what would it be??

I have a friend of mine who is interested and we were at the video store and there are quite a few titles to choose from, and I don't know nearly enough to guide him.

So I thought I'd ask the rest of you...Give me your thoughts as to best example of Anime out there.
