I just read a review of the new BG re-imagining on AICN and they really don;t like it.

In fact, as I was reading it, I was getting pretty pissed that they could screw it up so badly.

(Spoilers inside the review)

The review is obviously months old, since he talks about incomplete special effects and a temp score. On top of that, Harry is such a total loser. He gives good reviews to movies that he gets favors from. If it has nudity or hot chicks, he gives it his thumbs up, too, regardless of whether it's a good movie or not.

And beyond that, the original "Galactica" was so bad that even if the new one isn't that great, it'll still be lightyears beyond the original.

Hmmm

No Brikar I hear what yo are saying, and I will probably watch it anyway. God knows I've watched some pretty crappy Sci Fi in the past that I had no interest in, it is just that I had hoped to hear some more positive, exciting stuff coming out.

The promos on Sci Fi Channel that I catch every now and again appear pretty good, but you know, I thought the Planet of the Apes remake looked pretty good until I saw it.

It just seems that (if what is in the review proves true) so much sci-fi is written to attract sex starved/crazed teenagers. I remember when sci-fi was thought to be too intellectual for the average viewer to grasp. So you got dumbed down crap (i.e. Galactica 1980, Buck Rogers and the Flash Gordon movie come to mind) Now it seems like it is too moronic to attract the average person and the intelligent, thought provoking stories are done in crime drama shows.

Hey wait a minute, I liked the Flash Gordon movie! It was obviously written to be campy and to come off like a low budget flick, but yet it succeeded in keeping me entertained. All the actors playing Ming's bad guys (especially Max Von Sydow) just chewed up the sets and were obviously having a lot of fun. The actors playing Flash and his babe were pretty bad, true, but I have to wonder if that was the intent, and it wasn't so bad to kill the film. Of course, whenever Topol was in a scene with them he wound up stealing it. And getting Queen to do the soundtrack was pretty inspired.
