![]() | I saw it just last night. Finals week was not as conducive to movie-going this year as it has been in the past (bloody "Smallville" script...) I missed the beginning (the first scene I saw was when Pippen and Merry look into the orb at night and Gandalf has to take off with him). But the rest of it was damn cool. Probably gonna see it again soon, it was so good and also to see the beginning.

![]() | I saw it and I thought it was pretty good. Worth the admission (though I did pay the matinee price)... I've read the books, but my companions hadn't. We all agreed that it was the best but there were a few places you could tell they left stuff out. For example, at the end of the big battle at Minas Tirith, a few of the main characters were near death, one had a broken arm, etc. A few minutes later, they were marching off to the final battle perfectly fine. Huh? Also, once Frodo and Sam got into Mordor, they were at Mount Doom in what seemed like a short little jaunt. In the book, they wound up getting caught up with some orcs before getting away from them. And another case is Denethor going off about how the Steward sees more than Gandalf thinks, but they never explain why he sees so much (or why he's going nuts) - that he's been looking at a Palantir of his own, according to the book. And finally, at the end, Eowyn is happy when Arwen shows up, and she's hanging out (apparently) with Faramir. Why is she suddenly happy as a clam that Aragorn is going to marry someone else? Well, if you've read the book, you know why. I expect/hope that the extended edition (which to me is always the better version, and in the case of Two Towers my friends who hadn't read the book agree) will address these issues. But, for all that, I really enjoyed it.

![]() | People have to learn about the compromises that are NECESSARY when adapting a novel of that length and complexity to a feature film. I'm sick and tired of all the bitching and whining like "it was like this in the book" or "it was like that in the book." It's retarded. As for "it felt like parts were missing" - it was 3 hours and 20 minutes long. There's a DVD coming that's going to be about 4 hours and 15 minutes. Wait for it for christ's sake.

Overall, it was really good, and these are minor points, but they're worth pointing out.

| The Awesome One | Having only glanced at this thread, I have the distinct feeling there should be a spoiler warning in the title.
