Actually, wouldn't elves be more akin to Vulcans? And Klingons be more like a cross between Dwarves and Orcs?

Which of course leaves us with the Romulans.. Who the hell would they be?

I think that the idea was because both the Elvish language and the Klingon language are both fully-formed, complete languages created by linguistic experts, one could translate between them.
