| Astro-Monkey | We've found the Ancient's city of Atlantis. It sits in the distant Pegasus galaxy. Dr. Elizabeth Weir (new actress, if you saw SG:1's 7th season finale) has lead an international group of explorers through the gate to seek out and find any Ancients that may be left. Or their technology. Or more cool power cell thingeys. What they found was much worse. While scouting a planet, the group encountered what remained of the Wraiths, the Ancient's one-time enemy. The Ancients lost battle after battle with the Wraith, until they were forced to abandon their last foothold in the Pegasus galaxy: Atlantis. And we've just let the Wraiths free. How different is it? Major Sheppard is basically a new version of O'Neill. Teyla is kinda like Teal'c, but both characters have a lot of room to grow, and could probably grow in different directions. Personally, I've enjoyed both episodes I've seen.

![]() | As have I. The team seems much friendlier than SG-1, if that's possible. Teyla may be a Teal'c analogue, in that she's the alien member of the team and a fighter, but that's about it. She's a much more open and friendly person than Teal'c, and already in the second episode is beginning to assimilate our culture now that she and her people are living in Atlantis. That may be the key factor to the "nicer" aspect of Atlantis - the fact that there are civilians and kids living in the city. Dr. Weir and a number of her people aren't military people, and so far, there seems to be a sense that a small community is developing in Atlantis, with Sheppard telling the kids bedtime stories in the second episode. (Having him try to explain what a hockey mask is was classic). A lot of people have mentioned how it seems a lot like "Voyager" - stuck far, far from Earth, with a female leader, a hot-shot, wise-cracking pilot, etc. After only three episodes, it seems like this is how VOY should have been, with the characters forming a tight, friendly community, with a focus on recurring characters who are members of that community, but not in the main cast of six or seven.

| It's me again | The question I have is this, and maybe I missed it from the premier episode, is Teyla's people decendants of Earth like the Jaffa and Teal'c or are they a separate humoid race?

| It's me again | I believe that this Stargate is more advanced because it is an advanced version of the original created by the Ancients. When they went to the Pegasus Galaxy they kept working on the technology -- my theory anyway. They can dial back to Earth, I believe. I think the only reason they don't is because of the HUGE amount of energy it required.

![]() | Yes, it's cuz they don't have the power to get back to Earth. The city ran for so long under water that it doesn't have the power to send them back, either, so one of their objectives is to search for alternative power sources.
