![]() | To be honest, none of the things you mentioned is a disaster quite the size of this tsunami thing. On top of that, it struck a number of rather impoverished areas. The United States is relatively well-off as a whole, and rarely do 150,000+ of our numbers die in such a manner. That probably makes me sound like an asshole... but I'm just trying to put it in perspective a little.

![]() Yeah, I know 150,000 people dying is a sad thing, and I do feel sorry that those people didn't get the warning they needed to get out of there and it is tragic, but my poit really is that every time you flip on the tube or pick up a paper you hear something about it, so it just kind of gets people to the point that they really stop caring about it. I think a lot of people in the world are feeling the same as Cymro and Bean 'who cares, talk about something else' but are afraid to say it because of being precived as "insesitive". The point is that there are disasters happening all over the world right now but the main focus is on the tsunami... shit, my 15 year old cousin is freaking out thinking that this is a sign that the world is coming to an end because that's all they talk about on the news... is that really right?

I do understand what you're saying that it's not like so many died, but think of the percentage of those people who are elderly and need medicaion as well as the percentage of children who had to wake up Christmas morning in a shelter. And yes, the floods here ae very bad, Ohio hasn't seen floods like this in sevral generations. On th news tonight they were talking about the dams north of Columbus getting overflown and will have to be opened. They predict that it will cause the rivers to overflow more than they are now and cause downtown Columbus to get flooded. Downtown hasen't seen a flood since late 1800's/early 1900's, so it's really unheard of. Hundreds of people have already lost their homes in the floods and before it's over it could easily be a few thousand, so it burns me a bit that even the local news spends les than 2 minutes talking about that but talks about the tsunami for over 15 minutes.

| Religious Fanatic | I think what gets me the most about this is that there's a hurricane, tornado or monsoon etc. in the world every few months usually in the same places, and making a big deal out of one of them because it's particularly bad doesn't affect me emotionally.

| Religious Fanatic | They should have non stop media coverage every 150,000 victims of natural disasters, that way the small ones still get on TV

![]() | Perhaps someone could create a disaster channel, like the weather channel, and they could update the disasters around the world every ten minutes. BTW: Cymro, have you ever heard of a band called Dreadskin? If so, what do you think of them? |

| Religious Fanatic | Yeah, and I think the newscasters should let us know the estimated amount of people who died in the world each day, they could put it right after the sports so people are still in the mood for numbers.

| Patrons | HAHAHA! Those are actualy good ideas Cymro. Maybe then it would be like 'see people die from horrible shit everyday, welcome to life on the planet earth'. Plus on top of that, if people could actualy see that natural disasters happen all over the world (big or small) everyday then maybe we wouldn't have as many of these nut-job doomsdayers screamming about the end of the world and scaring the shit out of children.
